For years, NJ Transit has been in a budget deficit because public transportation has not been adequately funded. This lack of funding has impacted riders–diverting money away from initiatives that would expand service, redesign outdated routes, electrify bus fleets, and modernize infrastructure like bus stops and rail stations.

Last year, the NJ Transit Board of Directors voted to increase fares 15% starting July 1st, 2025, in addition to a permanent 3% yearly fare increase.

 

July 1st, 2025, is less than 6 months away…
